Life is Hard!

Life is Hard?

I’ve been in a few conversations lately and I’ve heard this sentiment, ‘Life is hard.’

It struck a chord the first time I heard it a few weeks ago, and then to hear it again got me thinking. I don’t feel like its hard. Hard to me is clawing bare handed up a steep cliff while trying to hang on for dear life. But this life, hard? Not buying it.

I think that you can really fluff your way through this thing if you wanted to and make it really easy. Jump out of bed, eat cereal, get dressed, and go. Doesn’t seem that bad. Then get to work, I mean dealing with others can be draining but stick to just being alone, and that could be easy. Then head home, grab take out, change and get back in your unmade bed.

Or just literally stay in bed, easy peasy.

So where does this notion that ‘Life is hard’ come from?

What about life is actually the hard part?

I believe that there are ups and downs, good days and bad days, peaks and valleys in this life for sure. Some days are blue sky days, windows down with your favorite song blasting on the radio while others are white knuckling through storms that blindside you. Those days or times are tough, and dark and downright scary. But to say ‘Life is Hard’ I still cannot, and I’ve seen my share of those days.

Those dark days have taught me to find the joy in walking my dog, seeing a bird chirp outside the window, a little hand wave to me at the food store. Those days are long, but they help to remind me to give one more hug at bedtime, stay for one more drink with an old friend, and linger in that to kiss my husband a little longer. Those days, we like to forget, but they teach us so much.

To brush them off as hard seems unfair. Every lesson has so much value. There is so much to appreciate along this journey so much that life can give us.
