Stealing Family Time

Our days pass very quickly and are jam packed with lots of to-dos, work, school, practice, workouts, rehearsals, meetings, and homework. The weekends seem to pass even more swiftly. We divide and conquer for the boys’ games, often tagging each other in to also accommodate appointments for one or both of our businesses. So, to get a “Free” Tuesday evening is R-A-R-E.

My youngest is always thinking and up to something, he pops in afterschool and asks one of his 1,337 questions, “Mom, do you have to go anywhere tonight?” After I say no with a grin he matches my smile and suggests to go to dinner for Chinese. While I had an idea of what I going to make for dinner, I was still recovering from dance competition hangover plus the laundry wasn’t about to do itself, so I was open to the possibility of this family outing.

With my prompting, he gives my husband a call to see if he’s feeling the vibe for Chinese. Luckily he is, and lil man is pumped as he hangs up the phone. When the squad is ready we all jump in the same car, yes I said the same car, as in one car, the four of us together...yipppee! It’s already feeling like a special day, and head off to the restaurant.

Once inside, we order, we eat, we talk, and share stories about our day, and what’s been going on with one another. Family time at its best, and no one has to clean up. We laugh and tease and joke and just enjoy each others company. At the end of dinner the fortune cookies arrive, who got the silliest fortune and who stole seconds, it was all part of the fun.

As we head home the boys begin making their plans to head out to the local basketball court to get some shots up before dark and my husband is meeting up with a friend. Luckily, I’ve got my pile of laundry to fold along with the sweet memory of a piece of stolen time with my family to keep me company.
